Poor Brian

Brian stayed up until 4:00 in the morning last night helping organize the warehouse. He was so exhausted he just slept in his doghouse all day; he didn't even get up to bark at the shoppers. Poor Brian.

Kris

Our Thayer Coggin rep, Kris, came by today with her new G3 iPhone, two Robert Sonneman wall sconces, and lunch. We taught her how to email us photos.

Tommi Parzinger for Willow & Reed Server

One nice thing has been photographed and added to the website. How diligent.

This is nice.
Walking back from NitaNita, we stumbled upon this. It's a big hole in the street by the Bedford L with a "Brooklyn Family" box stuffed into it. It has something to do with pandas.

Guzzini Light, a Rosewood Table, and Directional Poufs
This is just a drop in the bucket, but three nice things have been photographed and added to the website. This summer has been oddly busy, pushing all of our summer projects (i.e. updating the website, organizing the warehouse, fixing stuff, etc) onto the back burner. Anyway, they're there now. Maybe more soon. Hopefully.

Another Day, Another Tragedy
This is the month of destruction and damage.
The day started out beautifully. Our friend, Rita, sold us a rare "Canna" table lamp designed by Castiglioni & Menghi for Fontana Arte in 1981. She kept it safely at her bedside for the past 19 years. I took it apart to clean it.

After 2 trips to the hardware store and 3 hours working to replace some rubber parts, I was finally putting the final screws into the base. A couple of washers were out of alignment. Because I'm stupid, I unscrewed the base again and flipped the lamp upside down. The heavy metal ring crashed down on the glass. It broke forever. This is the second lamp I broke this week. I feel absolutely awful and I don't want to tell Rita.

And for fun, here's what a Sottsass table looks like after being soaked in water:

(That's a Milo ottoman it's dripping onto)

I loved this table so much that I wanted to take it home. I didn't because doing so would make me feel guilty & irresponsible. What a mistake.
And here's a destroyed Edward Fields rug:

On a brighter note, we stayed up until 5:00 in the morning the other day cleaning up all the fire damage and rearranging the sad shop. It looks better, so we're happy about that . . .

Center44
The shop is still a disaster from the recent fire. We just discovered yesterday that water also got into our back warehouse. Tragedies include among many many others: a soaked & bleeding Edward Fields rug, a wet & warped Ettore Sottsass table, a soggy & stained Finn Juhl credenza, and a moist & mottled Milo Baughman sofa. On the bright side however, we've just moved into a second space we've rented at Center44 in Manhattan. It's the fanciest antique mall in the world.
Here's a "Before & After" shot of our pied-à-terre:

Pick Yourself Up, Dust Yourself Off, Start All Over Again.
We had just crammed the shop full of furniture that had been rented to three model condos; Friday, the roof of our building caught on fire. Fortunately no one was hurt, but water poured into the back room of the shop. We're closed today.
