Another Day, Another Tragedy
This is the month of destruction and damage.
The day started out beautifully. Our friend, Rita, sold us a rare "Canna" table lamp designed by Castiglioni & Menghi for Fontana Arte in 1981. She kept it safely at her bedside for the past 19 years. I took it apart to clean it.

After 2 trips to the hardware store and 3 hours working to replace some rubber parts, I was finally putting the final screws into the base. A couple of washers were out of alignment. Because I'm stupid, I unscrewed the base again and flipped the lamp upside down. The heavy metal ring crashed down on the glass. It broke forever. This is the second lamp I broke this week. I feel absolutely awful and I don't want to tell Rita.

And for fun, here's what a Sottsass table looks like after being soaked in water:

(That's a Milo ottoman it's dripping onto)

I loved this table so much that I wanted to take it home. I didn't because doing so would make me feel guilty & irresponsible. What a mistake.
And here's a destroyed Edward Fields rug:

On a brighter note, we stayed up until 5:00 in the morning the other day cleaning up all the fire damage and rearranging the sad shop. It looks better, so we're happy about that . . .
